 Postal and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar said the policy formulation and overall preparations for the fifth generation (Five-G) mobile phone services in the country are being taken fast.
He said this while inaugurating the 7th Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) and the Annual Forum at Hotel Intercontinental, Dhaka on Monday.
Mostafa Jabbar said the government is giving 'highest importance' to the challenge of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, keeping in view the economic development and ease of people in the country.
"We have already been tested in FIVE-G. Five-G policy and ecosystem are being created to provide licenses very quickly. ”
After the introduction of mobile phone service of Tuji technology in Bangladesh 3, the 3G came in the time of Awami League government. Then in February last year, the service was launched.
It has introduced five-G technology in various countries of the world including South Korea, Ireland, Spain, United Kingdom and Australia. An important aspect of this technology is the Internet of Things - IoT, where the devices used to communicate from device to device will also be considered as subscribers.
BTRC, a regulatory body of the telecommunication sector, formed a committee on August 8 to launch Five-G services in Bangladesh.
Commission officials, comprising representatives of the government, regulatory bodies and operators, are expected to make a full-fledged policy by January next year.
Speaking at the inauguration of the CTO Forum, the telecommunication minister said that the meeting will discuss in detail the issues of spectrum management, cyber security, broadband plans for digital transformation, changing forms of global services funding, over-the-top services for FiveG.
The meeting is being held for the second time in Dhaka from September 7 to October 1, with the theme "Towards a Digital Commonwealth".
Mostafa Jabbar said 3G and cyber security issues were being held at a large portion of the sessions for this session.
He said, "Bangladesh is not a bottomless basket, but is moving at an irreversible pace in its pursuit of development. To the Commonwealth, Bangladesh is now the name of a successful country in information technology. ”
Among others, AKM Rahmatullah, chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Acting Secretary General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Company, Gisa Fuatai Purcell, BTRC Chairman. Zahurul Haque, telecommunications secretary Ashok Kumar Biswas spoke on the occasion.
The CTO's highest policy-makers meeting is being held regularly in several Commonwealth countries.
Through this meeting, various levels of telecommunication and information technology related issues were assessed, future programs prepared and the progress of the organization examined, as well as monitoring, reviewing and finalizing the financial and strategic issues of various projects, and final recommendations were presented to the member countries.
Besides the officials of the Commonwealth countries, about 25 representatives of telecommunication and information technology, including ministers, secretaries, heads of regulators, government, non-governmental organizations and officials from different countries are participating in this conference.
